I thanked her for the compliment and I smiled to myself, then I told her that I was into sales. She quickly wanted to know how I got started in sales and what products I sold. I told her that I started 6 years ago by selling fire alarms door to door. Her mouth dropped opened! She said “your kidding Right?? I could never do that!”
Just 15 seconds earlier she was willing to do anything to own a house in a community like mine but now, all of a sudden she’s white as a ghost because I mentioned “Door to Door sales” I asked her why she felt that way and she said she didn’t have it in her to approach a stranger and strike up a conversation.
Believe it or not, you sell yourself everyday, you sell when you speak to strangers and give them recommendations, you sell every time you persuade people’s decisions one way or another. We all do that, it’s life! The problem comes in when average people think of doing it for a living, then the dread of failing sets in. By nature, people are afraid of being rejected and failing and that worry usually keeps them from ever going forward in life. It forbids them from taking risks and starting new endeavors. It’s sad because it keeps them in a pitiful rut and they usually just end up being jealous of those that take chances they themselves were not even willing to take.
I noticed she was wearing a great looking dress and I told her so and she went into a long explanation about how she loves to look for bargains and where she goes to get them and even though she didn’t spend a fortune for her dress, it looked like a million bucks! I told her, do you realize what you just did? She smiled and said, yes I see your point!

A positive attitude can be likened to a magnet that attracts positive people to you. Those attracted to you will like you, they will trust you and best of all, BUY FROM YOU with the slightest suggestion in the right direction!
